Origins

As the economy has been shifting
and manufacturing has been globalized and streamlined
to the point where many products seem to have no soul,
people (YOU) now crave, more than ever
for a CONNECTION to the things they buy.

We like to believe that when people buy our pieces, they're buying more than just jewelry or accessories. They're buying part of a story that they become a part of. They're buying a symbol of empowerment, and a piece of a circle that connects us all.

Since we started MapleXO, we've been telling the story of our Recycled Skateboard Jewelry every way we could: Through our website, trade shows, press releases, social media, face to face, printed postcards and so on. HOWEVER once our pieces left our woodshop, we felt like much of this story was lost. The people who buy, wear, and sell our jewelry deserved to know more...

With the brainstorming power of some MapleXO friends (Shaun, Amity, Brent, and more) we created new tags that give us the chance to share the otherwise untold story of every piece of jewelry we make.

BOARD: There's so much that goes into designing a skateboard, from the graphics, and shape, to the wood colors and concave. We owe it to the skateboard companies and our customers to let you know which skateboard your piece came from.

ORIGIN: Skate shops, friends, supporters, skateboarders, and skateboard companies from all over the world save us and send us boards to recycle. Now you'll know where your piece's board came from, and which city's streets it rolled through.

FINISHED BY: At the MapleXO Headquarters, your piece of jewelry is created by the hands and hearts of amazing people. We have high standards of perfection in our products and take a lot of personal pride in each piece we create. The last person to finish each piece now signs every card so you'll know who's hands, heart, and mind finished your piece of MapleXO.

Be a part of the story. Get yours at www.MapleXO.com or any local shop that sells MapleXO.

Magnets!

MapleXO has made these Magnets from recycled skateboards for years and years. It was actually one of the first products made by us, but we sold them exclusively direct to customers; at craft fairs, holiday sales and so on...

Finally, we're offering them online, available to YOU.

These magnets are made from recycled skateboards by good people here in Portland, Oregon.

Each set will come with 4 magnets from 4 separate skateboards giving you a variety of color to add to your decor.

Use them to hang precious photos, love notes, shopping lists, a polaroid, a special ticket stub, and so on...

We like to recommend them just as a simple piece to adorn any space by adding just a little flair!

The Tucker Ring

A collaboration that solely exists because of skateboarding, creativity, and friendship. With just a tiny piece of a skateboard shaped by us at MapleXO, Tucker Glasow created this one of a kind work of art.

A one of a kind ring made by the mind and hands of a talented jeweler, skateboarder, and friend.

We met Tucker Glasow through our project manager, Brent. We quickly learned that Tucker is an incredibly talented human. He skates, films, and makes amazing jewelry with precious stones and metals. Check out www.AmyBuettner.com to see examples of his work. (Amy is Tucker's rad lady who he's been making jewelry with for the past 11 years!)

Grove + MapleXO

Well, it's been over a year in the making but we've finally finished the 50 limited edition Grove + MapleXO Recycled Skateboard iPhone4 cases.
It's so hard to explain how much went into making these cases, but we wanted to try to break it down for you:

An amazing Portland company, Grove makes iPhone 4 cases out of bamboo.

I really loved what Ken and Joe from Grove were doing and somehow wanted to collaborate with recycled skateboards in the mix. I just knew that the colors inside the boards had some great potential for a collaboration.

After lots of mind melting madness in the woodshop trying to figure out a way to make the material,

I finally brought Ken a block that I made out skateboards. He tested it by cutting out a couple cases. It worked! And the Grove team waved the green flag to get rolling with the collaboration!

The next few months were spent cutting down the boards into workable strips to make more blocks for the project.
Each individual strip had to be cut to the perfect dimensions, grip tape peeled off, graphics sanded away, and flattened to make it work.

We sorted through the boards and picked out the best colors, and had a blast laying out each individual case.

MapleXO's intern, Becky Donaghy, put in some major hours helping along with a lot of other MXO supporters.

After all the skateboard pieces were laid out and glued up, the guys at Grove took over and started making the magic happen.

Ben, Shay, and Sean from Grove worked around the clock to make each case perfect.

Every step in making these cases involved intricate hands-on work.

I came by the Grove shop often to help and inspect the cases as they were going through the production steps.

Seyi from Grove had his whole heart in this project, as we all did, and he created the most amazing frames for each case to be packaged and shipped in. Bamboo frames with skateboard inlays.

The last steps were fit testing them, and laser engraving them with numbers 0-50.

Once the cases were finished we had a meeting to decide exactly how we were going to run the actual online sale, and a unanimous decision was made to donate part of our proceeds to non-profit organization which YOU can help us decide from facebook!

And so HERE IT IS... the big launch of a project we're all so proud of.

The Grove + MapleXO 50 Limited Edition iPhone4 case collaboration. Spread the word!

A big thank you goes out to all the Grove and MapleXO supporters who helped make this happen! Thank you Ken, Joe, Shay, Yuji, Galen, Leela, Kim, Sean, Ben, Tommy, and the rest of the Grove team. Thank you Becky, Jim, Paul, Brent, Amity, Connie, Billy, Erik, Kevin, Buzzy, Kris and the rest of you MapleXO supporters! We couldn't have done it with out you!

love dove

Leela, origami jewelry designer (LeeMo) and Lindsay, skateboard recycle-er (MapleXO) were introduced and knew right away that a collaboration was in order.  By combining the originality of recycled skateboard jewelry and origami influenced design, they knew only good things were to come!

We present: love doves.

Origami doves made from recycled skateboards cut with lasers? Can't wrap your head around it? Neither could we - or so we thought.

Thanks to some inspiration from our friend Shay, we were able to create a material out of old skateboards that would work with Leela's origami designs and laser capabilities.

Whether it be for romance, friendship, collaboration, or family - celebrate with us in this season of love, the symbol of a dove needs no further explanation.
